As a therapist at our Shelby Township location, what challenges do you specialize in treating?

I work with people from all walks of life but I specialize in working with women, adolescent girls, couples and families. Some special areas of focus within these groups are depression, anxiety, eating disorders, self-esteem, self-injury, stress management, blended families and Christian counseling.

What do you find is most important about your role as a therapist?

The ability to create a safe, non-judgmental environment is one of the greatest roles of a therapist. When an individual feels safe, they are able to open up and explore the depths of their pain and emotions. As they walk through those experiences with a trusted therapist, healing and growth can take place. I take this role very seriously and am honored to be a part of this process with my clients.

In your opinion, how do you help people?

By providing them the space and freedom to explore their emotions and walk with them on their journey towards healing. I work with my clients to move towards the goals and dreams they have for their lives while providing assistance and tools on that path to overcome the obstacles tripping them up to continue forward. The key to a successful experience is a positive therapeutic relationship which I believe happens as a result of being an empathetic therapist who truly cares for my clients and the dreams they have for their lives.

What is something that you wish people knew about your specialties, or about therapy in general?

I wish people knew that going to therapy does not mean you are weak. It means you are brave enough to face your battles and take the steps towards healing and overcoming them.

Can you describe an influential person or experience in your life?

At one of the lowest points in my early young adult life, the Lord brought two very special mentors into my life who had the insight to see who I could be and that I could overcome the things that were bringing me down. Through their guidance and support they gave me a vital key in overcoming whatever life threw at me; hope! Through that time I learned that if we have hope it doesn’t matter what is happening around us, hope will help us hang on and give us the courage to change and grow.
