Therapist Spotlight-Janet Schryer-Donahue

What do you specialize in?

Working with age 8-80, I help people navigate the challenges and struggles in life, helping them aim for their personal goals. This can be a stage-of-life challenge, something that came unexpectedly, or something that just has not yet been figured out. Whether you find yourself anxious, stressed, confused, depressed, overwhelmed, or uncertain, there is hope for a bright future and living a vibrant life. I have extensive training and expertise in identifying and working with trauma, substance abuse, and am also an EMDR practitioner.

What do you think is important about your role as a therapist?

As a therapist, I listen and watch carefully for cues you may give me to help identify your needs and what will work for you. I help you identify what it is you want to accomplish and create a roadmap to help you reach your goals. Then we work on the tools to help you get where you want to be. It is all about you and what it is that you want from coming.

How do you help people, in your opinion?

Everyone needs someone who is safe and accepting to talk things through with. I create a warm, safe, non-judgmental environment where you can share your concerns and learn new tools to use for the rest of your life.

What is something that you wish people knew about your specialty, or about therapy in general?

Often we do not realize that struggles today may have their roots in something in the past that needs healing. It is very possible to be free of things that have been holding us back, even things we were not aware of that were getting in the way.

Name an influential person or experience in your life.

I really would not know where to begin to answer this question – there have been so many! Like awards shows, the list of people I would want to thank goes on forever.
