As a therapist at our Troy location, what challenges do you specialize in treating?

I work with individuals and couples who are experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma. Also for those who are facing life transitions like relocation, postpartum depression, grief and loss.

My specialization is in Marriage and Family Therapy.

I have advanced training in:

• Emotionally Focused Therapy, to help couples and families create a secure, lasting bond in relationships with loved ones, increasing security and connection.

• Discernment Counseling, for couples to look at their options before making a final decision about divorce. Most appropriate for couples where one partner wants to preserve and repair the relationship and the other is leaning towards ending it.

What do you find is most important about your role as a therapist?

It is important to me, to be respectful and passionate about the work I do, helping people reflect on what is best for them in a safe environment.

In your opinion, how do you help people?

I help people by empowering them to believe in themselves and to find the tools to overcome their problems and live life to the fullest.

What is something that you wish people knew about your specialties, or about therapy in general?

I would like people to know that therapy is not about someone else telling you what to do or how to do it. It is about utilizing the space and the guidance to find the best answers within yourself.

Also, that it is best to seek therapy early on when problems arise, once you realize you have not been able to solve them on your own. Don’t wait until the problems have become chronic.

Can you describe an influential person or experience in your life?

One influential experience for me has been growing up in a great country, Mexico, and then living the last third of my life in this wonderful country. The impact of two fine cultures has made my life richer and more resourceful.
