(William R.) Bill Matthews, MA, LPC, PDDEd has been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1981. Bill began his career working with runaway and throwaway youth. He later became director of that program before moving on to be a clinical coordinator of an outpatient mental health/substance abuse agency. Along the way Bill served as an adjunct faculty at WSU’s School of Medicine, University of Michigan-Dearborn, Concordia College (Ann Arbor) and Macomb Community College.
With more than ten years as an organizational and team development specialist in automotive, banking, healthcare, high tech and other fields, Bill has a unique appreciation for the stresses that today’s volatile work world places on both the individual and family. Bill is also available to supervise LLPC practitioners.
Bill is trained as a family systems therapist. He is certified as an EMDR practitioner (with subspecialties in working with children/adolescents, headaches and pain management), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Mindfulness for Performance Enhancement, Awareness and Knowledge (mPEAK). Bill sees clients from age seven on up to adults. His clinical interests include: depression, anxiety & panic disorders, bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD, family and blended-family issues, and most recently, working with student-athletes and other high performers (the art & business) on mental health challenges faced by this special population.
