Emily is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in internalizing disorders, such as anxiety and depression. Emily’s approach is person-centered; meeting the client where they are and working collaboratively to help move them forward and accomplishing the goals they work to set. Emily approaches each therapy session as a down to earth conversation, utilizing principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to assist clients in problem solving and coping with stressful situations.
Emily received her Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan and her Bachelors degree in Psychology also from the University of Michigan. She has extensive experience working with children and adolescents in acute inpatient psychiatric settings as well as home based/outpatient settings.
Emily’s experience working in both the home based and hospital based fields has equipped her to handle complicated cases, involving the client, family and school. Emily works to establish a net around each client; identifying strengths, weaknesses and needs and identifying a team to help the client accomplish their treatment goals.
Emily also obtained her certificate in school social work. Through her training in school and collaboration with student support personnel while working in the hospital setting, Emily is experienced in helping parents and their children, navigate returning to school after absences such as hospitalizations. She has extensive experience with children and teens who have a history of suicide attempts, multiple hospitalizations and urges to self-harm.
She also enjoys working with adults, struggling with issues such as depression and anxiety, couples, and families.
