Michelle Connelly is Licensed Professional Counselor with over 15 years of academic and clinical experience. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and her Master’s Degree in Counseling and graduated with honors from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. She also has a specialized post-graduate certification in Psychological Assessments and Testing, as well as, Community Mental Health Counseling.
Michelle began her career in Macomb County where she worked in Community Mental Health gaining extensive experience working with the full spectrum of mental health issues. Michelle worked directly with the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center counseling adolescents, teens and their families who were referred for treatment to address behavioral, emotional and substance use issues. She has extensive experience working with children and teens with developmental disabilities, specifically Asperger’s, Sensory Processing Disorders and ADHD assisting the patient and their families with gaining a better understanding of their disability, providing resources and assisting the patient with learning appropriate coping mechanisms and essential socialization skills. Michelle also has experiencing working with adults and couples exploring emotional issues, relationship struggles, life transitions, and many other life stressors that can negatively impact one’s daily functioning.
Her areas of specialty include depression, anxiety, ADHD, Asperger’s, Sensory Processing Disorders, behavioral issues in children/adolescents, parenting issues, relationship issues, infertility and reproductive health issues. In addition to her clinical work as a therapist, Michelle also provides psychological assessments, including cognitive, achievement, personality and projective measures, as well as diagnosis and recommendations, for children and adults.
As a therapist, Michelle utilizes empirically based therapeutic techniques that have been proven to be effective. Her approach is one that is nurturing and non-judgmental. She provides an environment where the patient can establish a sense of safety and trust and works within the therapeutic relationship to find the appropriate balance in life that works for each individual.
Michelle is a Nationally Certified Counselor and a member of the American Counseling Association, the Michigan Counseling Association, National Autism Association, and Chi Sigma Iota, an international honor society for counseling professionals.
