Licensed Professional Counselor
Hello, My name is Carolyn Nicholson, I am a Professional Teacher and Licensed Professional Counselor for over 20 years. I retired from the Michigan Public Schools and am working independently as a Life Coach and Therapist for GLPG. I am a person who believes in human potential. I believe in validating the positives in people, while assisting them trust their own intuition and decision making skills.
I believe it is important to work with clients and to help them become more grounded and centered. Most of us deal with anxiety and depression. I feel it is important to help clients learn about and work through these emotions that are uncomfortable. I believe it is important for clients to understand and become more familiar with their own boundaries and communication style.
As clients become better equipped to identify and express their own needs, the client gains confidence, self awareness and trust in themself.
I use and illustrate active listening, empathy and reflective questioning to help the client learn about him or herself.
As a School Counselor, I ran groups for students who struggled with issues such as: sexual identity, stress, family abuse and neglect, etc. I also met with individual students and parents as needed. I worked with parents on parenting techniques with their children. I also conducted seminars in the interest of parents and students being successful in school with academics, testing and career prep.
I currently work with clients dealing with: anxiety, depression, communication, ADHD, past child abuse and/or trauma, relationship Issues, along with boundary & goal setting. I work with couples that are having difficulty with compromise, communication and patience with one another.
It is my goal to help ALL clients see their self worth and to gain insight and skills to make their lives more manageable!
I believe in practicing eclectic therapy models including:
- CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
- CCT ( Client Centered Therapy ) focus: self awareness
- CAL Therapy - (Communication, Active Listening Therapy )
- NT Therapy. (Narrative -defining clients life story and identifying values, internal messaging to identify events that are rewarding or triggering...)
I believe in practicing what I preach - It is important to practice being healthy in all areas of who we are: physically, mentally, socially, spiritually and intellectually. I am a cyclist, an avid outdoor enthusiast, love to swim, love my pets, family and friends.
