Jessica Warpup, LMSW
Licensed Master Social Worker
Jessica earned her undergraduate degree in psychology and Master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan. She has spent much of her professional life working with older adults and their caregivers to find solace at home. This work with families has reinforced the finding that family dynamics are often complicated, and grief is compounded by complex relationships. Jessica can help you to work through “every day” challenges to improve your relationships and daily functioning. Jessica will provide an environment in which together you can work through your past and present struggles, coping mechanisms, and experiences in order to better understand your needs and ultimately yourself. This will help you to improve communication of your needs and thus your relationship(s) with others. Some held therapeutic practices include:
- Many clients have not had a secure place to be their authentic selves; in therapy one can safely, curiously discover who they are.
- Understanding how our family and family values have shaped how we perceive the world, and how those values may differ with our own.
- Promoting change through untangling maladaptive coping strategies as they relate to familial dynamics, especially unhelpful boundaries.
- Awareness of deeply held trauma: how it affects one’s ability to cope on a psychological, biological, and interpersonal level.
- Everyone is doing the best that they can with the tools and resources (internal and external) that they have.
When not practicing social work Jessica enjoys spending time in nature, reading (multiple) books, and traveling.
