Melanie Tomalia, MA, LPC, NCC

Welcome! My name is Melanie (she/her). I am a mental health counselor with over 7 years of experience. I have worked extensively with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, ODD, OCD, anger, schizophrenia, Borderline Personality Disorder, and LGBTQ+ related issues.

I earned my Master’s Degree in Counseling from Central Michigan University and am committed to continuing my education to better serve my clients. I provide talk therapy from an existential perspective, often including homework assignments to support growth outside of sessions.

My goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings. Counseling involves sharing concerns, feelings, aspirations, and personal stories with a skilled professional who helps guide the client toward exploring alternative solutions.

Counseling is an interpersonal, psychotherapeutic practice grounded in legal and ethical standards. It offers individuals, couples, and families assessment, diagnosis, psychoeducation, and guidance to develop goals and implement a counseling plan.

I typically provide short-term outpatient counseling, seeing most clients 1-4 times per month. I have experience working with all age groups and currently see clients from age 11 to 75. I believe it’s my responsibility to provide a trusting, respectful, and compassionate environment for self-exploration.

Coming from an existential perspective, I focus on highlighting clients’ capacities and encouraging them to take responsibility for their own success.
