Sukhee Kim, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Sukhee (She, her, hers) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) who graduated with her Master's in Social Work from the Ohio State University and over 12 years post graduate experiences. She provides therapy to individuals ages 18+ to help them grow from a variety of life challenges; stress, major life transitions, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss, women’s issues, addiction, and other general adjustment issues.
Every individual and their life challenges are unique. Consequently, there is not a distinct therapeutic approach which works for everyone. Included in her modalities are talk therapy (CBT, DBT, MI,etc) and skills-based therapy. Skills based therapy includes various relaxation strategies, cognitive reframing, thought reconstruction, and behavioral changes.
For Sukhee, an often recurrent objective in therapy is to explore her clients' challenges to help them develop an awareness of conscious and unconscious thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that become drivers of actions that negatively impact them in a myriad of ways. Once there is an understanding of these factors, real growth can occur by recognizing new ways of thinking, acting, and exploring options that can lead to a more fulfilling life. Her favorite quote is the following; 'The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.-by Carl Rogers'.
Sukhee creates a very supportive/safe environment for the client that allows clients to feel at ease and comfortable. Therapy is a collaborative journey of trust, connection, openness, willingness, and challenges to foster growth. Together, change can occur to achieve your goals through the development of coping skills, new perspectives, and applying acceptance to manage what has kept you from reaching your potential and fulfillment.
She offers a culturally-sensitive, person-centered, and strengths-based approach to help clients meet their goals and maximize their well-being. She also fluently speaks in Korean. Therefore, counseling in Korean is offered upon request.
