If you aren't talking about it, you are storing it... and that gets heavy over time.

Hi, my name is Tyler White, LMSW. I am a young clinician that has been in practice for about four and half years. I live, practice and went to school in the Metro Detroit area. I received my undergraduate degree from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. During that time, I was able to participate in a clinical internship at an out-patient clinic. I helped run a substance-abuse intensive out-patient group three times a week. Additionally, I was able to work with and be exposed to other mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression and panic disorders. This is where I found my niche and passion for helping others.

Following graduation, I went straight into Wayne State University's Master of Social Work program (MSW). I chose to study the interpersonal degree track of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. I have always been interested with understanding how people act, behave and think. Therefore, I felt that this degree track made sense for me. During my time in graduate school. I worked at two private practices for my clinical internships. I have performed one-on-one psychotherapy to a wide variety of the population with a multitude of different mental health issues. I learned so much from graduate school.

The experiences and opportunities I was exposed to helped shape the clinician I am today. My main approaches to treatment are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic principles. But I like to think my process is unique, as every client's needs are different. Nevertheless, my goal for treatment is to create a safe holding environment. I strive for my clients to feel safe and comfortable to express themselves openly and without judgment. Creating a therapeutic alliance with mutual respect, reliability, appropriate boundaries and confidentiality are key. My true passion is to work with young adults. I find a genuine connection with this group of individuals because of my own mental health experiences. This is a crucial age where figuring out your life and self can bring up issues, i.e., depression, anxiety. A lot of people don't seek the necessary help for this time in their life due to negative opinions of therapy and mental health. Ending the stigma around seeking help has been exponentially important to me because we need to know we are not alone in our pursuit of joy.
