Did you know?

ADHD is one of the most common mental health disorders at 9.4% for kids between the ages of 2-17 years. Approximately 8% of children have an anxiety disorder. One in 5 children suffers from a mental health or learning disorder.

What to expect

Most therapists will request that one or both parents accompany their child to the first appointment. From there, your child’s therapist will develop a treatment plan which may include individual sessions with your child, sessions with the parents alone, family sessions, or any combination of these. Your child’s treatment plan will be customized based on their history, presenting problems, and goals for treatment.

Intervention with children and teens often starts with helping the child and their parents learn more about the challenges the child faces from a psychological, developmental, and environmental perspective.

The child may learn effective strategies for coping through challenges like grief, bullying, divorce, and more.

They may learn cognitive and behavioral strategies for reframing unhelpful thinking patterns and making self-serving choices.

Treatment is never one-size-fits-all: treatment plans are developed with careful consideration of your child’s unique history, personality, strengths, and challenges.
