Hello! My name is Karen Hernandez and I am a limited license Clinical Social Worker who is fluent in both English and Spanish. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Oakland University and went on to receive my Master of Social Work with a certification in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Studies from Wayne State University. I have experience in a broad range of mental health fields, including both outpatient and inpatient mental health facilities and clinics. My practice predominantly focuses on mental health issues and adversities manifesting through or because of anxiety, depression, mood instability, relationship issues, stress, identity, major life changes, and substance use within the adult population. I use a range of therapeutic approaches depending on the specific needs of a client, including Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused and Strength- based approaches, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. As a therapist, I am passionate about providing clients with the support, knowledge and tools needed to reinforce positive changes, build self-esteem and self efficacy, help manage thoughts and behaviors, and assist clients in gaining a better understanding of themselves.
