Hello! My name is Karyn and I look forward to working with you. I am a Licensed Master Social Worker with over 6 years of clinical experience. My Bachelor's degree was earned from Western Michigan University in Social Work. I went on to earn my graduate degree in Social Work from the University of Kentucky.
I began my career in community mental health as a Mental Health Therapist working with children, adolescents, adults, and families that had a severe and persistent mental illness. There I learned that a collaborative approach with other health professionals i.e.: psychiatrists, case managers, primary care physicians, teachers, and parents, etc. assists in achieving the highest level of mental health.
It is found that a therapeutic alliance with a client is a necessity in healing and I establish that through warm acceptance and unconditional positive regard. I have a solution-based approach to therapy in which active participation is encouraged. I work with the client to establish a clear understanding of the problem, develop a collaborative treatment plan, and utilize scientific-based therapeutic interventions. I have an aggressive approach to therapy that is Cognitive-Behavioral based.
My specialty is with adolescents and adults experiencing; depression, anxiety, bipolar, intimate relationship conflicts, grief and loss, and communication difficulties.
