Welcome to a better way of finding your therapist

So you’ve decided to begin therapy, but are overwhelmed by the amount of choices. As the stigma around therapy has faded, more and more therapy platforms have become available. The addition of telehealth and companies specifically targeted at it makes the choices even more overwhelming. That’s why Great Lakes Psychology Group has launched Find My Therapist, a new, flexible way of finding your best-fit therapist. Here are some tips on how to use the platform to choose your therapist.

1. Filter by your insurance, location, and needs

Not every therapist will take your insurance, so it’s important to verify ahead of time that your benefits are accepted. Luckily, Find My Therapist requires you to select your insurance, location, and mental health needs prior to providing a directory of available therapists. Or, if you are planning on paying out of pocket, choose that option at the start. Our network of therapists are here to address a wide range of needs. Before receiving your curated list of potential providers, you’ll be asked to tell us about what is bringing you to therapy. You can also choose whether you are looking for individual, couples, or family counseling.

2. Narrow your list down by clinician gender, availability, and communities

If you have a preference about any of these aspects, Find My Therapist has the option to filter by each. For example, if you are looking for a woman therapist who specializes in working with the LGBTQIA+ community, you can select those categories and easily choose someone who aligns with your needs or preferences.

3. Decide if you prefer online or in-person therapy

With the rise of online therapy, some therapists offer only telehealth visits. If you prefer in-person therapy, you can filter by this preference in your search. Find My Therapist currently offers in-person therapy in Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. If you are open to either online or in-person therapy, you will likely have more therapists to select from. If you are new to telehealth, read about how to prepare for your first session.

4. Get to know therapists through their bios

After Find My Therapist curates a list for you, get to know therapists even better by reading their bios. You can review information on a clinician’s education, experience, specialties, and accepted insurances. View their credentials and learn about additional certifications they may have that may be helpful in your journey. Ultimately, therapy hinges on the relationship between the client and therapist, so learning about the therapist in their own words can help you find the best fit for you.

5. Book your session instantly

Find My Therapist’s HIPAA-secure and confidential platform allows you to book appointments using the calendar feature on the therapist’s profile in the top right corner. See their availability in real time without the added step of sending an email or making a call. If a therapist offers both online and in-person appointments, you can select which option you prefer and see their availability based on the type of appointment.
